The UK’s all Female Rock Band make The Kut on NME TV

All girl rock trio, The Kut have been playlisted on NME TV Radar this week, NME’s spotlight show bringing viewers the very best breakthrough bands. This is brilliant news for the band, who have gone from strength to strength this year. Their recent Love Hate Vampire Shotgun System Circus Tour was sold out and upcoming concerts now include a Headline Show at Moho Live, Manchester and stage to acts including Kings of Leon, Razorlight and Funeral Party.

Launched in 2007, NME TV was the logical addition to the popular music magazine, NME, making music videos available to almost 9 million households. Championing new as well as mainstream bands, the channel is available on Sky 382, but now is also featured on Freesat 516, with a base of around 1 million viewers every week. With current playlist videos including Kings of Leon, Manic Street Preachers, Arctic Monkey’s, Beady Eye, The Vaccines, Two Door Cinema Club and Nero, additional NME TV shows include band interviews, live footage and a number of shows hosted by prominent indie and rock bands. The Kut appeared as the first video on the new Radar show, and appeared back to back with Noel Gallagher and Anna Calvi.

The new music video ‘Closure’ demonstrates there is a deeper tone to the band and offers a more Incubus styled offering to their forthcoming album. The music video has also been snapped up by Sub TV, reaching the screens of Student Unions around the UK, as well on heavy rotation on Tuune TV (Sky 195 / Freeview 5147), where viewers enjoy a good mix of videos including Foo Fighters, Radiohead and Moby.

“We are delighted The Kut have been selected for the NME TV Radar Playlist”, said Thomas Rossiter at Criminal Records. “It’s a great boost for them and all of us here at Criminal Records. Some people said an all female rock band wouldn’t work in today’s climate, but we are happy to be proving those critics wrong”.

The Kut get snapped up for new UK Playlisting

Criminal Records all girl rockers are to have their new music video featured on the playlist for Tuune (Propeller TV), Sub TV and in Scream Pubs following their sold out UK Tour. Tuune TV viewers enjoy a good mix of new and well known acts including Foo Fighters, Radiohead and Moby, who feature back to back with newer emerging acts. This means not only are the girls up on Sky, Freesat and Movieola via Tuune TV, but they are also playing out in all the Student Unions serviced by Sub TV, as well as the Scream chain of pubs. Their recent Love Hate Vampire Shotgun System Circus Tour was sold out across the UK and upcoming concerts now include a Headline Show at Propaganda, the UK’s biggest indie night, and stage to acts including Kings of Leon, Razorlight and Funeral Party, held at Moho Live, Manchester. Sub TV also support the band throughout their UK tour, after attending the bands first sold out show at the Garage, London.

Talking about the playlist for Propeller TV this morning, Maha mentioned “It’s pretty surreal because I was just watching the Foo Fighters on the show, then logged in to facebook and my mate Steevo had posted a photo of himself with Dave Grohl. Ha ha he met the whole of Foo Fighters on the Eurostar yesterday! It looked like a new band photo – my mate Steevo is an awesome bass player and plays in Les Figurines, I think they should hook up!”

Formed in New Cross, London by lead guitarist, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, Maha, the girls mix rock riffs and solos, with solid bass, drums and contagious vocals, mixing a range of styles including rock, indie and breakbeat, to produce their grunge infected basement rock sound.

Gigaboxx select The Kut as Feature Band for UK Store Launch

All girl rock trio The Kut, get another pre tour boost as they take over the front page of the long awaited music store Gigaboxx. Initially set to run under a subscription model, the Gigaboxx store soon switched to a free service and has since been reaping a growing number of customers. Home to a large number of major and independent artists, the Gigaboxx store selected all female band, The Kut, to have pride of place on the store after seeing fan numbers rocket on the band’s mobile site. This is brilliant news for the girls, who have just sold out over half of their upcoming tour dates including shows at the Barfly in London and the Roadhouse in Manchester late July. It is expected that the band will benefit from approximately 1 million extra views over the next year as a result of the arrangement.

Gigaboxx allows labels and bands to create mobile music stores that allow fans to purchase music directly from their phones at gigs. Users text a simple SMS shortcode, or scan a QR code to be connected to the bands mobile store. This then allows users to buy content and the cost is deducted from their mobile phone bill or pay as you go credit. Gigaboxx is certainly the first store of its kind, reaching a far wider demographic than the growing norm of credit card download stores. It is a strikingly similar model to that operating in Japan, still one of the biggest music markets in the world and allowing fans of all ages access to music quickly. Interestingly 94% of all downloads in Japan are purchased via mobile handsets, and it probably won’t be long before fans and bands ditch MySpace for such next generation technology.
This is another big win for The Kut, demonstrating that the industry still has room to break independent label bands even in the current climate. The music video by The Kut, ‘Closure’ will also be for sale on their mobile site, as well as live footage that is to be gathered on the Love Hate Vampire Shotgun System Circus Tour. The news follows the band’s recent partnership with Ents24 that will see them reach 1.5 million new music fans over the next 2 week and an endorsement from Dr Martens, who kitted them and The Horrors out with new boots for their upcoming tour earlier this month. The band are due out to LA later this year to celebrate their deal to feature in the game Rock Band alongside a handful of other artists including Steve Vai, Gwen Stefani, and Metric.

Ents24 partner with Criminal Records for The Kut UK Tour

Independent label Criminal Records have partnered with UK’s leading entertainment guide Ents24 to bring all female rock band The Kut, to a new audience of 1.5 million music fans across the UK. The upcoming Love Hate Vampire Shotgun System Circus Tour has been eagerly anticipated following the bands recent sold out Garage show and it is anticipated that many shows on the tour will be sold out. The partnership marks another milestone in the growing number of deals between UK Record Labels and concert promoters such as Live Nation, who are now also known for striking long term deals with acts including U2 and Madonna.

Adele Taylor, at Ents24 spoke of the partnership in a press conference today, stating “I’m delighted that Ents24 are supporting The Kut tour and it’s great to be working with Criminal Records in bringing acts like this to the fore. Having significant involvement in a band or artist’s career just as it’s all taking off is something you can’t beat! Ents24 have always strived to bring new talent to our ever growing audience, which is something I hope we’ll continue to do for a very long time to come.”

This is brilliant news for The Kut, who’s ‘Closure’ music video comes out next week. The girls are also due to return to LA later this year after hooking up with multiplatinum producer and celebrity, Kim Fowley, first known as the manager of The Runaways. In a brief meeting with ROTD, Kim told them “The best thing to come out of the UK is K-U-T, The Kut”! The trip will also double up a showcase to celebrate their deal to feature in the game Rock Band alongside a handful of other female artists including Gwen Stefani, Metric and The Donnas.
